Mountbellew GC - Fairways being rolled out

As I write the topsoil is going back on the new fairways, the growing medium for these fairways and golfing corridor is made from the peat dug out of the lake at the 5th/6th holes and the bog/fairway area which is now the 4th hole. The topsoil for the golf course had to be "created" on site from peat generated and the importation of a local sand/grit mixture.

This proved a tedious yet very successful operation. The site was totally lacking of any topsoil that might be usable when work started. This was always going to be an uncertain process but in my opinion has been very successful. Testing of the various available components was carried out and the most suitable mixture was agreed upon.

The rootzone being put out on the fairways will I believe prove an excellent surface from which to hit golf shots. More importantly, I suggest that, in my opinion, it will give a dry golfing surface - which I feel is critical to the members and the ongoing sustainability of the club.

It is hoped that the contractors will be finished in 4/6 weeks.
