Limerick Golf and Country Club

Works commenced on the 16th May 2011 in the "recovery" of Limerick Golf and Country Club. We were challenged to recover the golf course in a 7 week timeline.
The club was taken in possession by one of the banks some months ago. No work had been undertaken on the golf course since it was taken in possession.
The task was immense but the results are there for all to see.
Read a brief synopsis about the work. We have included some photos in an effort to show the "before" and "after"...   The project was hugely educational and challenging. We had many "cries" along the road... but way more laughs...
Well done and thanks to all those involved. It was a pleasure to be involved.

Go raibh maith agat.

Works are complete at Edmondstown GC

The Bunker remodel program work is complete at Edmondstown GC. The work commenced on January 10th 2011 and the bunkers are now open for play. 31 bunkers were remodelled and we await feedback from the golfers.

Great thanks to Seamus Given, Chairperson of the Greens Committee, Harols Solomon, Liaison, John Nolan, Superintendent and in particular Colin Darcy of Dar Golf Construction. I am personally thrilled with the result. We didn't go for anything "sexy" in the style/look preferring "old school" looks. Less is more, very often. I love it and look forward to playing at Edmondstown GC very soon.
Thanks again to all concerned,
Slan go foill,

Ken

Edmondstown GC - Bunker Remodel Almost Complete

The bunker remodel program is nearly completed. Bunkers were remodelled on holes 2,3,4,7,9,11,12,13,14,16,17,18 and the practice area. The works commenced on the 10th January 2011, following extensive engagement with the club.

The problem with the bunkers at Edmonstown G.C. was not an unfamiliar one - holding water, sand wash on the faces, contaminated sand as a result of the localised contours graded to attract water into the bunkers. As a consequence of the silt build up in the drainage and sand profile, the sand does not perform properly. Both the Maintenance Crew and golfers became frustrated.

The solution was to remodel the bunker complexes, recontour the ground, install new drainage and bunker liner, new turfing and the new sand to be installed this week. Hereunder (and in the Edmondstown GC Profile page) are some photos taken on 14th April during a site visit, one can see the bunkers are cored and the liner has been installed in some cases.

The bunkers are due to be in play the week of 22nd April - pretty good going - 32 bunkers completely remodelled and back in play in 14 weeks !.

Edmondstown GC - 17th Hole Bunker

The picture above shows the bunker to right of the green at the 17th Hole at Edmondstown GC. Where previously water ran from the green into this bunker, causing drainage issues etc, the contours have now been remodelled to divert water away to the right hand side of the bunker. This bunker is topsoiled and ready to be turfed next week.
