Tuam GC - 1st Phase of remodel open for play

The remodelled 3rd green at Tuam GC opened for play last weekend to many plaudits. New bunkering and a complete remodel to the green complex have taken place. Three greenside bunkers and a smaller pot bunker surround the green which will now require an accurate approach or some deft sand play !.
New fairway bunkers at the 2nd have also been completed and are in play, with new bunkers on the 4th and 16th drained and the sand being added at present.
These works complete phase one of the course remodel and KKGD are looking forward to commencing the second phase in early Autumn which will include 4 x new green complexes, new water features and tee complexes.

Mountbellew GC - Fairways being rolled out

As I write the topsoil is going back on the new fairways, the growing medium for these fairways and golfing corridor is made from the peat dug out of the lake at the 5th/6th holes and the bog/fairway area which is now the 4th hole. The topsoil for the golf course had to be "created" on site from peat generated and the importation of a local sand/grit mixture.

This proved a tedious yet very successful operation. The site was totally lacking of any topsoil that might be usable when work started. This was always going to be an uncertain process but in my opinion has been very successful. Testing of the various available components was carried out and the most suitable mixture was agreed upon.

The rootzone being put out on the fairways will I believe prove an excellent surface from which to hit golf shots. More importantly, I suggest that, in my opinion, it will give a dry golfing surface - which I feel is critical to the members and the ongoing sustainability of the club.

It is hoped that the contractors will be finished in 4/6 weeks.

Roscommon GC - Making excellent progress

I am delighted with progress at Roscommon GC. DAR Golf started on site on 25th March 2008. 9 greens are shaped and the proposed complexes look spectacular. Three of the greens are drained and the work is moving very swiftly. Gravel carpets are currently being put in place and then the root zone layer will be placed. Everybody is excited at the prospect of playing the new holes which offer new and challenging golf strategies.

Lets hope the weather holds up and the speed of progress continues.

If the job is worth doing - it is worth doing well.

Mountbellew GC - Fairway drainage starts

The contractors are back on site and the fairway drainage is underway. The tees are seeded and the greens are looking spectacular and have already on a full maintenance program. The seeding of fairways and rough has commenced and hopefully with some good weather the contractors will be off site in 5 / 6 weeks.
